The Rockland County Chess Club is happy to announce that it will once again offer chess lessons for everyone interested in learning chess. From absolute beginners to more advanced players - there will be a class section available for everyone to be challenged and improve. Since all the classes will be held concurrently, it will be easy to move participants into the appropriate class if necessary.
Each learning group will meet weekly for a one hour lesson that will also include some chess games. All participants will be given study/practice materials to use between lessons.
These classes immediately precede the Rockland County Chess Club’s regular weekly meetings. All class participants are invited to stay and play for the duration of the meeting, free of charge.
This section is for young chess learners who are just getting into chess. Some students will already know the basic rules and have a little bit of experience, but complete beginners are also welcome.
Chess Team – All Ages (Approval Required)
This section is for chess learners who are already more proficient and are interested in becoming stronger chess players. In addition to the lessons, students will be required to play online games outside of class - either during an online tournament for team members - or against other players of similar strength. Instructors will use those games to provide individual feedback to every student. If there is sufficient interest, we will accompany students to a tournament on Sunday, February 26 in Greenwich, CT. More info about the tournament can be found here.
This section is for teens and adults . It will span a fairly wide range of abilities, but everyone will find the material instructive and challenging. If you’ve said “I’ve always wanted to get back into chess,” this class is for you!
All classes will be held at the CSI Synagogue at 300 N. Broadway, Nyack, NY 10960. There is plenty of parking behind the building. Please use the side entrance. Also, please be aware that no outside food or drink will be allowed in the building. Bottled water is ok.
Dates for all classes – February 2, 9, 16, March 2, 9, 16
Cost – $150 for six classes. This includes a chess workbook for practicing, a chess notation pad, and free access to the Rockland County Chess Club meetings (Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM).
