The Rockland County Chess Club is happy to announce that it will begin offering chess lessons again for everyone interested in learning chess.  From absolute beginners to more advanced players - there will be a class section available for everyone to be challenged and improve.

Each section will be broken up by age and ability.  Each learning group will meet weekly for a one hour lesson that will include some chess games. All participants will be given study/practice materials to use between lessons.

These classes immediately precede the Rockland County Chess Club’s regular weekly meetings. All class participants are invited to stay and play for the duration of the meeting, free of charge.

Please note that exceptions can be made for young players to join the more advanced classes if that student’s ability level suggests it.

Grades 2 through 5
Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

This section is for young chess learners who are just getting into chess. Some students will already know the basic rules and have a little bit of experience, but complete beginners are also welcome.

Grades 6 through 12
Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

This section is for those who are familiar with the rules of chess and are looking to improve their strategical and tactical vision. Anyone rated below 1600 will benefit from this course.

Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

This section is for adults (and possibly more advanced middle/high school students). It will span a fairly wide range of abilities, but everyone will find the material instructive and challenging. If you’ve said “I’ve always wanted to get back into chess,” this class is for you!

Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

In this class section, we will show the ropes and share resources so that you can start learning and playing chess on your own. We will answer all questions you have and set you on the path to chess enjoyment. You’ll rewatch “The Queen’s Gambit” with a new pair of eyes.

All classes will be held at the CSI Synagogue at 300 N. Broadway, Nyack, NY 10960. There is plenty of parking behind the building. Please use the side entrance. Also, please be aware that no outside food or drink will be allowed in the building. Bottled water is ok.

Dates for all classes – March 17, 24, 31, April 7, 14, 28 (note: no classes on April 21 due to Spring Break)

Cost – $150 for six classes. This includes a chess workbook for practicing, a chess notation pad, and free access to the Rockland County Chess Club meetings (Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM).
